The Studio
Sona’s vision was to take a tired funeral parlour of 20 years and create a tattoo studio unlike anything else in the world.
She wanted it to be welcoming to everyone - all races, religions and genders. She wanted a bright and striking look, but it also had to be an inspiring space where artists could create the best quality tattoos and customers would enjoy their time being inked... And we like to think she achieved it - with interest!
TATTOOMA opened its doors in October 2022.
Before
The TATTOOMA journey started in October 2021 when Sona agreed to lease the shop - subject to getting planning permission from the Council. She applied for planning permission in November 2021 and it was finally granted in March 2022. It then took several months to sort the legal paperwork to terminate the Co-operative lease and start the new TATTOOMA one - she finally got the keys in May 2022! That’s when her partner, Dan, set about turning her plans into reality. Some rooms and offices were ripped out, the ceiling height was raised up nearly two feet higher and the double-doors at the back of the studio were converted to a window so that Pablo, her Frenchie, could sit in the back office and watch the tattooing through his window! The studio was finished in August 2022, but there was one last hurdle to jump over - getting a tattoo licence from the London Borough of Bexley. That was granted in October 2022 so the doors could finally open a full 12 months after the process started!
