Sona both owns the studio and is our resident tattoo portrait specialist here at TATTOOMA in South East London.
We’ve all seen the viral internet pictures showing original photographs next to terrible tattoo versions with almost zero likeness… well, you’ll be pleased to know there’s never been any of that rubbish here!
Sona spent several years as a professional portrait artist (you can see some of per pre-tattoo portrait work further down this page), perfecting her craft in graphite, charcoal and pastils, before she even thought about trying it with a tattoo machine. After deciding she’d like to start tattooing portraits, Sona introduced a new rule into her drawing technique: no erasers and no blending sticks - exactly how it is in tattooing!
By perfecting her ‘zero mistakes allowed’ drawing and painting method, it provided the perfect proving ground before making the step up to tattooing portraits onto skin instead of drawing them on paper.
Another of Sona’s specialisations is taking on tattoo commissions from very old and low resolution photographs. If you’ve visited tattoo studios and been told “that photo isn’t good enough” before, let Sona take a look as she can often succeed where other tattoo studios couldn’t.
